The game of washers is a game of skill that is quick to learn, competitive, and fun for all ages.  The object of the game is to have your washers land in the center cup; however, those washers that land within the playing area also score additional points.  Each player throws a different color set of washers which assists with scoring identification.  See below for details.

About the Game

The game of washers is a leisure sport targeted for all individuals who enjoy games of skill, competition, and a little luck! Washers is a traditional American game that has evolved over time into a style of play that is quite unique from region to region. The origin of the game is as unique as the various styles of play. Such variations include diameter of playing area, distance between field of play, scoring, and scoring apparatus, etc. An official scoring apparatus and standard set of rules is not unified allowing the player to pick the style of play they prefer. While the game is mostly considered an outdoor sport, it can be moved indoors to a garage or basement for those months when the weather isn't suitable for outdoor play.

Instructions

The game of washers is a game of skill in which an individual or team competes against one another to reach a winning score of 21 points. Washers is commonly played with two (2) or four (4) players that pitch six (6) washers (3 washers per team) onto the washer board. The game consists of two (2) game boards opposite of one another at a distance of 21 feet from the center of the cup to the other. The object of the game is to pitch all washers into the cup, or onto the playing area to score points. While pitching the washers, the player must remain behind the front of the washer board in which they are throwing from. Player A throwing all three (3) washers followed by player B throwing all three (3) washers onto Game Board #1- take score - then players C and D pitch their round onto Game Board #2 (if playing with four (4) individuals.

Scoring

To begin a new game, each player/team throws one (1) washer towards the opposite washer board. The washer closest to the cup determines which player/team starts the game.

Each player pitches all three (3) washers in succession towards the opposite game board with the first person to throw being the player who scored last.

Three (3) points are awarded to washers that land in the cup and one (1) point is awarded to washers landing on the washer board. Only one player/team whose washers are closest to the cup will score points for the round.

If each player pitches a washer into the center cup it cancels each washer resulting in zero points awarded. If player B pitches a washer that hits one of player A's washers and moves it into, or closer to the cup, then player A benefits by such action. The first team to reach 21 points wins, or if a score of 11-0 is reached the game is over and deemed a 'skunk'.

Players can choose to play "rally" style scoring in which all washers landing on the game board or in the cup score points. In this method of scoring, opposing washers do not negate each other.
